Dance

It began as a waltz with intricate steps carefully spaced between the chairs and tables; our feet drifted, slowly in and out, winding around the labyrinth of people and noise and smoky mayhem. We found one another, then lost each other once again. In between lapses of where our eyes would quietly meet to exchange secret greetings, I felt your hand upon my shoulder. My vision was a harlequin haze of contorted colours, all spilling in and out of some fantastic day-dream. New feelings and dazed bewilderment shook my heart and it rattled in its cage. It was an impetuous dance between two strangers, and we talked of secret things in hushed tones. Not even the world knew what we had spoken of.
